It’s not uncommon for memory foam mattress toppers to emit some not-so-pleasant smell. Well, the topper is expected to safeguard the mattress from all possible mishaps but smell is different kind of malfunctioning.

Here are some household easy ways of getting rid of that smell.

Method 1: Spray baking soda on both the sides of the mattress and gently rub, enabling the powder to penetrate its surface. Leave it for a while before dusting it off with vacuum.

Method 2: Make a mixture of baking soda with water in a spray bottle and spray the mixture on both the sides of the mattress and let it be there for about thirty minutes. Now spray it water and let it dry in a well-ventilated room.

Method 3: The mixture in method 2 above may be replaced with hydrogen peroxide with baking soda and water and follow the same procedure as above. This could cause some discoloration of the mattress, but that shouldn’t really matter as you are going to cover it with sheets anyway.

Method 4:
The simplest way is to leave the mattress out in the sun during the day. If you find that too much of an effort, let it be in the room and keep the windows open to permit the circulation of air.

Method 5: Rub a bit of baby powder on both the sides of the mattress; leave it for a while before vacuuming it afterwards.

Method 6: Charcoal is a good absorbent of smells and can be used for the purpose here too. Place bowls of charcoal around the mattress and ventilate the air in the room by switching on the fan.

Method 7: Spray a mixture off lemon juice and water on the mattress and keep it for drying for about thirty minutes and then leave it under the sun for drying completely or use your vacuum for the purpose.

Method 8: Another way of disinfecting the mattress is to spray rubbing alcohol on both the sides of the mattress.

Method 9: In a spray bottle dilute your favorite essential oil with water and spray the mattress with this solution to get the desired effects.

Method 10: Prepare a mixture of vinegar and water. Soak a towel in this mixture, wring out excess of water and leave the towel on the mattress for a couple of minutes and sprinkle some baking soda after removing the towel. Finally vacuum the mattress after thirty minutes.
